Adventures in .gif making

Added on by Lisa Max.

Last weekend I was fortunate enough to briefly be involved in setting up Picture Book #3, a fundraiser event for the final issue of Perth based writing & arts magazine dotdotdash.

My role (besides stealing milk crates) was to create projection images to accompany the introduction of each performer. Somewhere along the way I became obsessed with the idea that each one had to be an animated .gif, a format that (despite my heavy internet use) I was relatively unfamiliar with. In the end i did manage to get quite a few done, using photoshop, facebook profile pictures and images found through google searches (I do not hold the copyright for any of the images used) - resulting in enormous files, some of which you can see below.

The event turned out to be one of the most memorable nights I have experienced in Perth. A crowd assembled under a rolling ocean of blue tarpaulin in a rainstorm, wonderful performances of many genres, zines, vegan baked goods and a general vibe of love and appreciation of what had been created by all. Many thanks to Steven James Finch for letting me be part of the team.
